Hamsterley Forest sits wedged between Teesdale and Weardale in the heart of beautiful Durham Dales, approximately 10 miles (16 km) west of Bishop Auckland.

Camping at Hamsterly is in FC field, so they will be around to collect camping fee. No water, a really nice refreshing waterfall, chemical toilets and of course the Billycan. There is an FC gated access here that is locked every night.

  1. Hi, I would very much like to race at round 4 of the series but I have an issue with my insurance! Is there anyone I can contact to discuss this?

    • Sorry I meant round 3!

      • Hi George,

Rd3 Hamsterly took place a couple of weeks ago!

    • Hi George,

If you have questions regarding your insurance you should email them to Steve Parr at

      • Ah right ok! It was round 4 that I meant then, sorry!
Thanks a lot I will email him.

  2. Could you tell me what time they lock the FC campsite at night, also what time they open the gates in the morning Thanks

    • Hi Mick,

They lock gates about 8pm normally & they are opened at 8am. They are left open when there is an event on.

  3. hi matthew, do you have any idea what the forestry will charge for camping, just want to make sure i have enough cash with me, cheers john

    • Hi John,

If they do come around for a camping fee it’s £5

  4. Hi are all senior spaces taken now?

    • Hi George,

      Yes all gone!

  5. Hi, will the red & black trails be closed at Hamsterley for non-racers?

    • Hi Michael,

Yes I’m afraid antenna/transmitter will be closed to non competitors.

  6. Hi Matt,

Due to financial problems I will not be able to attend this race as well. Is it possible to get a refund for my race entry please?

    • Hi Dan,

You need to email for refunds.

  7. Is Hamsterly still going ahead? Can’t make out from your news post whether it’s the whole series that’s postponed or just the July race?

    • Hi Dave,

It’s just the Champs round in July that has been postponed till September.

  8. Where can I find details of the race? For Instance, what trails around hamsterly it uses and the length of it. I want to start competing around the north of england and maybe scotland also so could you also recommend me websites that will help me, i know thats irreleavant to your cause but it would be helpful.

    • Hi Connor,

We won’t release the route until the weekend of the race.
There are quite a few Enduro races up North, Northern Enduro series, PMBA, Scottish Enduro series as well as No Fuss events and some other 1 off events. Hope this helps.

  9. How do I cancel my entry for this event? Can no longer go to it and want to cancel it ASAP so that I still get my money back (minus the £5 fee). Thanks, Sam

  10. Hi, what travel bike is recommended for this event, do you have to camp at the forest? Thanks

    • Hi Hugo,

You can race on any bike some race hard tails most race something with 4-6 inches of travel. No requirement to camp but you can if you want.

  11. Hi – so is this for mountain bikes or cyclocross ?

    • Hi Ron,

      Mountain Bikes.

  12. Hi – just wondering if there are still entries available for Hamsterly? MoreDirt seems to suggest there are places available – just don’t want to go buy insurance if it turns out not to be the case.

    • Hi Alex,

If entry are available via moredirt.com then yes you can still get a place.

  13. Hi I am 14 years old and I would like to enter this race . Is there a class I can go in

      Any questions, just ask.

      • Hi is it £70 for both days (Saturday /Sunday)

        • Hi Fyn,

          Yes this covers both days.

  14. We are coming from, Kathmandu Nepal for the 1-2 August race. Two questions:

    1. Is it best to arrive on the Friday evening?
    2. Do we need to book the camping site.

    • Hi Stephen,

You can arrive on the Friday evening, lots of people arrive Friday morning or so they can practice on the Friday. No you do not need to book camping, you can camp right next to the finish line.
